Pope Benedict XVI will visit England and Scotland from 16-19 September 2010. The Holy Father will be received by Her Majesty The Queen in Edinburgh and then travel to Glasgow to celebrate an open-air Mass. On the second day His Holiness will travel to London, he is scheduled to meet with the Archbishop of Canterbury at Lambeth Palace and then give an address at Westminster Hall followed by Evening Prayer at Westminster Abbey.
On the third day of the visit, Pope Benedict will celebrate Mass in Westminster Cathedral then later in the day he will be present at an open air Vigil of prayer in London's Hyde Park
The final day of the visit is focused very much on the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman; the Pope will celebrate that beatification in Cofton Park in Birmingham.
“We would urge everyone in
the Catholic community to pray
for this Visit and to support the
collection for it as generously as
they can. The Holy Father’s visit
is a wonderful opportunity for
the gentle light of faith to be
contemplated afresh by everyone.
He will confirm the strong faith
of our own community. But my
prayer, too, is that the visit may
serve to kindle a new spiritual
vitality, a questioning of the heart
for many in our society who may
have no religious affiliation but
who are in some way seeking a
deeper meaning and purpose to
their lives.”
